Blacklight class

This theme is made to be done in PITCH dark. Inspired by the white gi and black hakama this is the perfect theme to do with your group. All you need are black lights. Prefably a black light canon. (Which will give you 400Watt of light.) Depanding on the size of your dojo you’ll need a few. 2-4 are usually enough. But you can ask the renting company for more details.

Once the dojo is in pitch black you, and the lights are heated up (after 10-15min the lights are at it’s best.) Everything white will glow up. So if you are instructing you can think of wearing white gloves and or white/neon colored socks. This way they will still be able to follow your feet and hands.

Good to know:

  • Grabbing attacks make it more easy for the group to ‘see’ what is happening.
  • Try to avoid locks (because it’s harder to survey the whole group)
  • Wearing gloves or socks are good to see your footwork if you wear a hakama
  • You can use neon face paint to make it more fun for the kids.

Warning: The lights will heat up, so keep a safe distance of the tatami. (Ask for details at the renting company.)

Tip: You can even make a parkour / prison by hanging neon colored wires. This way the dojo will look like it has a lot of laser beams. (You can let them try to crawl underneath it without touching it. Or painting faces with neon colors will give a great effect!
